This evening I’ve become a reluctant mover to Dreamwidth. I’ve been with LiveJournal since 2004, have had a permanent account for most of that time, and have not previously set up an account with Dreamwidth; but the effect of the recent LiveJournal licence changes on LGBT users is not something I can support. I’m still in the process of configuring stuff, and my LJ entries haven’t even been imported into DW yet, so I’m not sure precisely how things are going to work out and whether my LiveJournal will stay and be cross-posted to. The logic of “taking a stand” suggests that it should go, but I’ll have to wait and see what the practicalities are before making a final decision. This post itself is a bit of a test to see how things work.

I don’t seem to be alone in taking this decision now.

My new account is at https://ggreig.dreamwidth.org/. In the short term I intend that content will be cross-posted to LiveJournal, but that may end at some point.

*waves*

Been here for a while; the LJ atrocity that made me move was a sight less awful than this one, but it was still bad as I recall.
You are very far from alone if the sudden wealth of activity on my flist is anything to go by.

I’ve been maintaining a copy of my LJ on Dreamwidth since 2009, running an import every few months, but until now have considered it just to be a backup.

I think I’ll leave my LJ in place for the moment, but not add to it. I’ve not convinced myself that cross-posting feels right at the moment; I think I’d prefer not to add any new content to LJ. But I’m willing to change my mind, as things settle over the coming weeks.

I've already deleted my LiveJournal, after all the old entries were imported to DW (took about 30 hours, but that was a couple of days ago). I was going to leave it longer, but I really can't abide the new terms, not least being expected to be legally bound by an agreement I can't read, and also seems to be highly problematic to me. So bye bye.

I wasn't a big user of LJ, mainly using it for family-only posts to keep track of my MS-like illness. And I wasn't a paid member, so didn't have much to lose. But once I found I could transfer all my entries over that was me out of there.

On the downside I don't know an easy way to archive my posts in bulk out from Dreamwidth, except 1 month at a time. I have a decade's worth of posts ...

I've used a UNIX version of ljarchive before, on my Mac, but haven't checked yet if it will work on Dreamwidth. Thanks for the reminder :)

I used ljdump in the past, which is Python based. There's also ljmigrate. They should probably work with DW. Will try!
